MSP Ed Burke Scholarship Endowment

2024-2025 Academic Year Award

The Ed Burke Scholarship Endowment will award an annual scholarship to students who are members of the CSUN’s Young Democratic Socialists of America Organization.

Ed Burke spent nearly four decades as an educator and as much time involved in politics, from the local to the national level. He had always had a drive to help others and made it his lifelong determination to help the next generation of Democratic leaders thrive in government. He has always been the silent champion for many organizations including the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee and the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley to the Democratic National Committee. With his first passion as an educator, he was unapologetic in making big waves in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He served as the chief of staff to Board Member Jon Lauritzen and the chief advisor to Board Member Bennett Kayser. He also helped to establish the Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) program for teachers, providing instructional support to below standard teachers, beginning teachers and those who volunteer for assistance. After moving to Hawaii, he helped elect a young legislator, Cedric Gates, and now serves as his policy advisor. Even though retirement called him to Oahu, Hawaii, Ed has been a stellar volunteer and advocate for the University as a Heritage Society member and an Ambassador for the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts.
