Kam Ying (Suki) Ho and Ringo Chiu Scholarship

Academic Year 2026–2027 Award

This scholarship provides two annual awards to full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in either the University’s Department of Journalism (with a focus on photojournalism) or the Department of Art and Design (with a concentration in photography).

Applicants will be evaluated through a portfolio review of work focused on documentary photography and a submitted artist statement. Additional evaluation criteria include scholastic achievement (minimum GPA requirement), storytelling impact, and demonstrated technical and artistic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be enrolled full-time in a minimum of 12 units.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a current Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate student.
  • Major must be in the Department of Journalism (photojournalism focus) or the Department of Art & Design (photography concentration).

    Please submit an Artist Statement to accompany your portfolio. In your statement, describe your artistic vision and the inspiration behind your work. Explain how your portfolio reflects your unique perspective, storytelling approach, and technical development. Discuss the themes, subjects, or communities you are drawn to documenting and the impact you hope your work creates. You may also reflect on how your academic training has shaped your growth as a photographer or photojournalist and how this scholarship would support your continued development.
