CSU The Captain’s Foundation Scholarship for Continuing Avalon High School Alumni Scholarship

Academic Year 2026–2027 Award

The Captain’s Foundation Scholarship for Continuing Avalon High School Alumni supports graduates of Avalon High School who are currently pursuing higher education at a California State University campus.

The Captain’s Foundation was established by Cap Perkins in 1998 to support educational and community opportunities for Avalon youth. A Navy diver who came to Avalon after World War II, Cap built a life on Catalina Island through hard work and perseverance. Known for his generosity, he quietly supported students and community members in need. Before his passing in 2012, Cap ensured his legacy of community giving would continue through The Captain’s Foundation, which has provided more than $1 million in scholarships and support to community organizations. A scholarship endowment was created in 2025 to continue this legacy for Avalon High School graduates pursuing higher education at CSU campuses.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduate of Avalon High School, 200 Falls Canyon Road, P.O. Box 557, Avalon, CA 90704.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at California State University, Northridge
  • Must be enrolled full-time and in good academic standing as defined by the CSUN Financial Aid and Scholarship Department.
  • Applicants must complete the required personal statement prompts (up to 300 words each) as outlined by the CSU Foundation.

If you are receiving financial aid (including loans), your financial aid award(s) may be adjusted if you receive a scholarship amount that exceeds your total aid limit or Cost of Attendance (COA). Speak with a financial aid counselor during walk-in hours for a detailed overview of your individual situation.

Up to five (5) recipients will receive a minimum scholarship award of $2,000.
