About Ismael Zepeda:
Ismael was born in 1923 in Jalisco, Mexico, and despite limited schooling, he nurtured a deep love of learning, especially in math and history. At 17, he joined the WWII Bracero Program, overcoming difficult conditions to pursue his dream of reaching California and creating a better future. After the war, he married Mary, raised three daughters, and later became a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. In 1999, he joyfully became a U.S. citizen, embracing the opportunities he had long worked for. Ismael passed away on February 24, 2025, shy of 102, remembered as a dreamer who believed in opportunity, valued education, and dedicated his life to creating a better future for his family and others.
