2026-2027 Academic Year Award

The California Retired Teachers Association – San Fernando Valley Division offers scholarships to CSUN students who intend to obtain a teaching credential that will lead to a career teaching K-12 students. This scholarship is reserved for students who have been admitted to a teacher credential program.

If selected for this award, the student must attend one mandatory CalRTA meeting. Dates to be determined.

*Eligibility Requirements:

  • Open to continuing CSUN undergraduate and graduate teaching credential program students.
  • Credential students must be enrolled at CSUN during the Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 terms.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0.
  • Have a FAFSA or CADAA (California Dream Act Application) on file for the upcoming academic year.
  • Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 units or more* during the Fall & Spring terms of the award year.
  • Graduate students must enroll in a minimum of 6 units (8 units preferred) or more* during the Fall & Spring terms of the award year.
    * Any change to your enrollment status resulting in less than full-time enrollment for any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award.
  • Two letters of recommendation must be requested through the my Matador Scholarship system. (1) one from a CSUN Professor/Faculty and (1) one from a mentor, program coordinator /supervisor, or community member that can attest to your work and/or volunteering with children.
  • Must upload a copy of your student resume. A student’s resume is a detailed record of their personal and educational information. It includes the name of your school/college, coursework, projects (if any) undertaken, and awards. The resume may also include additional information, such as your extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, work experience (if any), hobbies, etc.

*Graduate student award $3000 scholarship
*Undergraduate student award $1500 scholarship

In accordance with institutional financial aid policies and federal regulations, all awards must be processed through the CSUN Financial Aid and Scholarship Department. If you are receiving financial aid (including loans), your aid package may be adjusted if this award causes your total aid to exceed your financial aid budget. For a detailed review of your individual situation, please visit the Financial Aid & Scholarship Department to meet with a counselor during walk-in hours.
