Associated Students Scholarship in Honor of Jolene Koester
2026-2027 Academic Year Award
The Associated Students is the primary advocate for students at California State University, Northridge and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning-focused campus environment.
Dr. Jolene Koester accepted the appointment as California State University Northridge’s fourth President in July 2000. She announced her retirement in May 2011. California State University Northridge has benefitted from over 11 years of excellence in leadership inspired and fostered by President Koester. The achievements of President Koester’s leadership include the addition of two new applied doctorate programs in educational leadership and physical therapy an effort to streamline general education requirements for undergraduates and distinction of becoming the only CSU campus to offer a major in Central American studies. During President Koester’s leadership the graduation and retention rates have steadily increased; and the construction of Chaparral Hall the Student Recreation Center the Valley Performing Arts Center three new Residence Halls and the renovation of the University Student Union are examples of the campus’ beautiful transformation during President Koester’s leadership. President Koester’s leadership has allowed the university to continue its advancement of its mission despite a significant reduction of government support during the state’s difficult economic reality. The Associated Students Inc. is appreciative of all the work President Koester has done on behalf of the students in addition to her consistent collaboration with the Associated Students. The Associated Students Inc. applauds President Koester’s career at California State University Northridge; therefore let it be that Associated Students Inc. will honor President Koester by creating a scholarship in her name.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Open to continuing CSUN undergraduate and graduate students.
- Undergraduate students must have a GPA of at least 3.5.
- Graduate students must have a GPA of at least 3.75.
- Must have a FAFSA or CADAA (California Dream Act Application) on file for the upcoming academic year.
- Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 units or more* during the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters.
- Graduate students must enroll in a minimum of 8 units or more* during the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters.
Any change to your enrollment status resulting in less than full time enrollment for any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award. - Two letters of recommendation must be requested through the myMatador Scholarship system.
- Must upload a copy of your student resume. A student resume is a detailed record of your personal and educational information. It includes the name of your school/college, coursework, projects (if any) undertaken, and awards. The resume may also contain additional information like your extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences, job experiences (if any), hobbies, etc.
- A reception will be held in your honor by Associated Students within the beginning of the Fall semester. Scholarship recipient will be sent an invitation in early Fall.

If you receive Financial Aid (including loans), your financial aid award(s) may be adjusted if you receive a scholarship amount that exceeds your financial aid total limit. Speak to a financial aid counselor during walk-in hours to get a detailed overview of your individual situation.
