William H. Krohmer Biology Graduate Student Scholarship
2025-2026 Academic Year Award
This Scholarship is in honor of William H. Krohmer by his family and friends. The gift will provide one annual scholarship award for a graduate-level student enrolled in the University’s Department of Biology program. The recipients of the scholarships will be selected during the spring semester and utilized in the subsequent academic year.
Bill began his career working at CSUN in 1969. After working part-time in the Carpentry Shop and graduating Summa Cum Laude, he started work full-time in 1973 as an equipment technician, designing and building lab instrumentation for the College of Science and Mathematics. He remained with the university until retiring in 2021. Bill’s legacy at CSUN is undeniable, and his contributions to the university will never be forgotten.
As Manager of Technical Services and Safety for the Biology department, he led a team of technical professionals and oversaw the development and management of the university’s premier technical support group. His work developing a comprehensive laboratory safety training and compliance monitoring program earned him the Governor’s safety award in 1992. That program now serves as the standard for many universities today. After the Northridge earthquake in 1994, Bill worked tirelessly as senior member of the University Emergency Response team, managing the decontamination, repair, and renovation of the science facilities on campus. His efforts during the earthquake reconstruction project earned him special recognition from President Bill Clinton.
Bill was the very first recipient of the College of Science and Math Staff Service Award in 2007 and was also involved in the preliminary design of Chaparral Hall, completed in 2009. He continued to maintain that level of commitment and service until his retirement from CSUN in 2021.
