Child and Adolescent Development Alumni Chapter Scholarship Program for CADV Majors

The goal of the CADV Alumni Chapter Scholarships is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or Alumni who is contributing to the profession through CSUN community involvement and leadership activities. Students selected to receive the scholarship are required to attend the Awards and Scholarships Celebration of Excellence Event to be held on May 4th, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Flintridge Room, CSUN.

CADV Alumni Chapter Scholarships

Dr. Carol S. Kelly Endowment Scholarship (One $1,000 Scholarship awarded )
The goal of the Dr. Carol Kelly Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus who demonstrates leadership through community involvement and who will be pursuing a graduate degree at CSUN.

Healthy Minds Consulting Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Healthy Minds Consulting Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose career goal is to work professionally with children or adolescents and is involved in advocacy or intends to pursue a career in this realm.

Brighter Minds – Dr. González Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Brighter Minds scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or CADV alumnus who is the first family member to pursue a degree in higher education and whose goal is to pursue a career with children and/or adolescents in behavioral or mental health.

Nedjat Gabbaie Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Nedjat Gabbaie Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose career goal is to work with children or adolescents challenged with learning disabilities or is currently working with that population.

Holding Hands (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Holdings Hands Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus who is the first family member to pursue a degree in higher education and whose career goal is to work with children or adolescents challenged with behavioral and mental health needs.

Alzamora-Detweiler Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Alzamora-Detweiler Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development undergraduate who is an immigrant or a child of immigrant parents whose goal is to pursue a career with children and adolescents challenged with special educational and behavioral needs.

Jackey Konialian Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the Jacky Konialian Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose goal is to work with children and adolescents challenged with special educational needs and/or is currently working with this population.

“Juntos Podemos” Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the “Juntos Podemos” scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or CADV alumnus who is the first family member and Dreamer to pursue a degree in higher education and whose goal is to pursue a career with children and/or adolescents in education and/or counseling.

“Sí podemos” Scholarship (One $500 Scholarship awarded)
The goal of the “Sí podemos” scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or CADV alumnus who is the first family member to pursue a degree in higher education and whose goal is to pursue a career with children and/or adolescents in behavioral or mental health.


Criteria for all CADV Alumni Chapter Scholarships:

  1. Student must be a Child and Adolescent Development major or CADV alumnus.
  2. Student must have a well-balanced and meaningful involvement and leadership in community and/or extra curricular activities.
  3. Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units of coursework at CSUN.
  4. For alumni or seniors, verification of acceptance into a post BA/graduate program and/or verification of enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester must be submitted before the scholarship is awarded.
  5. Student must be in good academic standing and/or have academic competencies.
  6. A completed application must include the application, a personal essay, two letters of recommendation, unofficial transcripts, verification of acceptance into a post BA/graduate program, and/or verification of enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester if applicable.
  7. Recipients are required to send a thank you note to the donor. Scholarship money will not be released until the copy of your thank you note to your donor is received.
  8. CSUN GPA of at least 2.5.


Letters should include the following information: (1) How long have you known the applicant and under what circumstances have you become familiar with the applicant’s capabilities. (2) Information regarding the student’s exceptional achievement and ability to contribute to the Profession of Child and Adolescent Development. (3) Discuss the applicant’s potential for future success; describe any impediments or hardships of which you are aware that the student has had to overcome in order to obtain academic success. (4) Rate the applicant’s motivation and initiative in pursuing academic and career goals.
