Robert J. Barbera Argumentation Award

2025-2026 Academic Year Award

The Robert J. Barbera Argumentation Award will provide scholarship funds for those demonstrating skills in the fields of argumentation and persuasive communication. All enrolled students at the University may apply for this scholarship and must submit an essay as prescribed on the listed current social topic.

The United States federal government should institute term limits on U.S. Supreme Court Justices.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all Majors
  • Must be a continuing undergraduate student
    Students graduating in Fall 2025 can apply and win award for Fall 2025
  • Each year, one topic and essay prompt will be selected, and all students must engage in their own research to respond to this prompt and cite the relevant sources of information.
    * Essay Length: Between five and ten pages of content, double spaced, Times New Roman font at 12point size. Should be accompanied by a separate references page citing those works mentioned within the essay.

    Resolved: The United States federal government should institute term limits on U.S. Supreme Court Justices.


    The essay should concentrate on presenting a single, specific stance: either an argument supporting the resolution or a position opposing it. Furthermore, your stance should incorporate reflection or reference to your personal experiences.
