The Latino Educational Fund (LEF) is a 501c(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping Latino/as achieve their full potential through higher education, career development and financial independence. For over a decade, LEF has sought to empower the communities in which it serves. Since their establishment in 2010, they firmly believe that providing tools in the form of jobs, affordable housing, loans, job training, financial literacy and scholarships is the most effective means of empowering people to obtain gainful employment and build a legacy for themselves and for their families.

Heberto M. Sanchez, founded LEF in 2010 to create a much-needed resource to the Latino students and young adults by providing information on college preparedness, career development, financial awareness, entrepreneurship, loans and affordable housing. LEF’s mission is to prepare people with the resources necessary for advance education and financial knowledge to strive for a better life. The overall goal of the organization is to improve the well-being of people through education and financial resources.

LEF services are design to improve access to education, provide job training and increase employability. LEF seeks to achieve this through scholarships, career development, job search assistance, job counseling and job placement, financial literacy courses, entrepreneur courses, loans, and affordable housing. In addition to its financial literacy and entrepreneur courses LEF also helps people build credit through unsecured micro loans. LEF is a SER Jobs for Progress National affiliate organization.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Open to enrolled CSUN undergraduate students.
  • Must be a member of a student organization that supports the Latino Community.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional leadership and community service.
  • Undergraduate student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree or career in finance/banking, geology, or in the petroleum industry.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident and a resident of Los Angeles County.
  • Undergraduate GPA must be greater than or equal to 3.0.
  • Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 units or more Fall & Spring terms during the academic award year.
    Any change to your eligibility status in any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award.
  • Must upload a copy of your student resume. A student resume is a detailed record of your personal and educational information. It includes the name of your school/college, coursework, projects (if any) undertaken, and awards. The resume may also contain additional information like your extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences, job experiences (if any), hobbies, etc.

    Please note:
    If you are receiving Financial Aid (including loans), your financial aid award(s) may be adjusted if you receive a scholarship amount that exceeds your financial aid total limit. Speak to a financial aid counselor during walk-in hours to get a detailed overview about your individual situation
