CSU Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students
2023-2024 Academic Year Award
The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students was established in 1991 for legally blind San Francisco and San Jose State University students. The scholarship gave students the opportunity to receive a quality education and pursue a professional career in humanities arts sciences or business. Mr. Schoettler was a businessman from Mountain View, Calif. who was blind the last eight years of his life.
This scholarship is open to CSUN students who have a visual disability. The applicant must provide verification from a medical health professional, which includes the best corrected visual acuity notations using the Confirmation of Visual Disability form. The disability must be such that it impedes the educational process and necessitates accommodations, support services, or programs.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale during the academic year in which the award is received
- Open to both undergraduate and graduate students
- Open to ALL majors
- Be currently enrolled as a part-time equivalent undergraduate or graduate student (6+ units)
- Remain a part-time equivalent undergraduate or graduate student during the Fall 2023 & Spring 2024 terms
Any change to your eligibility status in any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award. - Have a visual disability and provide verification from a medical health professional, which includes the best corrected visual acuity notations. (Please note that the disability must be such that it impedes the educational process and necessitates accommodations, support services, or programs.)
- Complete the Personal Statement questionnaire covering the following information:
-What experience has impacted your personal growth?
-Tell us about a time you failed. What did you learn from that experience?
-Why are you pursuing your major? How does it relate to your career aspirations?
-Provide an example of service beyond the classroom (i.e., have you taken on significant family obligations, helped others in a specific way, been involved in political action, worked/volunteered/interned at a particular organization, etc.).
