Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship

Fall 2024: 2024 -2025 Academic Year Award

This scholarship is presented by the CSUN Alumni Association. In order to qualify, a parent(s) of the applicant must have a degree/credential or have completed 24 units toward a degree or credential from CSUN or SFVSC. Grandparents who attended Northridge may also qualify the student as a legacy even if the “parent” did not attend. The “parent” is defined as a birth parent, step-parent or legal guardian.

It is helpful to include in your Personal Statement background information outlining your family history and connection to Cal State Northridge or San Fernando Valley State College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have a well balanced, meaningful involvement and leadership in community and/or extra curricular activities.
  • Must be and remain in good academic standing throughout the award year.
  • One letter of recommendation will be submitted on my behalf via the myMatadors Scholarship portal.
  • Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 units or more during each term of the upcoming academic year.
  • Graduate students must enroll in 6 units or more during each term of the upcoming academic year.
    Any change to your enrollment status resulting in less than required enrollment for any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award.
  • GPA must be greater than or equal to a 3.0.
  • Must submit an educational resume.
  • All recipients of this award agree to submit a thank you letter addressed to the Alumni Association Board of Directors Scholarship Committee in order for award to disburse.

  1. My parent, grandparent or legal guardian has a degree or credential from CSUN or SFVSC.
  2. Please list the name of your legacy relative (parent, grandparent or guardian who received a degree or credential from CSUN or SFVSC), your relationship to the person, and their graduation date/last year attended CSUN. If your legacy attended CSUN with a maiden name or other name, please include all names.
  3. List your current employment in and/or outside of the home with an estimated number of hours you work per week.
  4. List your involvement, including approximate dates, with any school based clubs,service organizations, and/or personal volunteer time. If you were unable to be a volunteer please provide a brief description as to why.
  5. In approximately 400 words, tell us how your education, and the education of your legacy relative contributed to who you are today. Why is receiving a college education important to you? Please note, this portion of the application is weighed the most by the scoring committee.
  6. [MSP 1] Please request: A letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, counselor, or community leader - who can attest to your meritorious performance and personal strengths and can assess your potential for academic and career success. The letter should include a signature, title, and contact information. The letter should be addressed to: *Award Selection Committee*.
  7. Please upload: A copy of your student resume/CV. A student resume is a detailed record of your personal and educational information. It includes the name of your school/college, coursework, projects (if any) undertaken, and awards. The resume may also contain additional information like your extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences, job experiences (if any), hobbies, etc.
