MSP Krom Family Scholarship Endowment

2024-2025 Academic Year Award

Janet and Rudolph Krom learned the value of saving early in their lives — having grown up during the Great Depression, Rudolph dropped out of high school to work to help support his two sisters. As a plumber whose work might not be steady, Rudolph often put money away for rainy days as he had the opportunity. Throughout their lives they remained careful with their money — their nephew, James Ashley, remembers Rudolph collecting aluminum cans throughout his life, even though the couple’s savings had grown substantially by the time Rudolph retired.

Rudolph is remembered as being happy and outgoing, while Janet was intelligent and friendly. Their marriage lasted for 50 years. Thanks to their generosity, they will continue to be remembered by generations of CSUN students, lessening their financial worries and helping them complete their education. After Rudolph’s death in 2001, Janet decided to help others through a variety of charities, including higher education, with the savings they had accumulated. Janet passed away in 2015, and part of the Krom’s legacy included a scholarship endowment at CSUN for financial need, leadership and community service.
