CSU Howard C. Christiansen Endowed Scholarship

2024-2025 Academic Year Award

The Howard C. Christiansen Trust established an endowed scholarship in 2016 for students pursuing a bachelors or graduate degree in the study of engineering. Scholarship nominees for the CSU Trustees’ Award will be reviewed first. If there are not enough applicants nominated who are in an engineering field, then the scholarship may be awarded to a second pool of engineering applicants outside the CSU Trustees’ Award.

This scholarship is open to CSUN undergraduate and graduate students majoring in any engineering major field.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Demonstrate superior academic performance with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be in good academic standing.
  • Open to both Undergraduate and Graduate students.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by a completed FAFSA or California Dream Act application.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time equivalent undergraduate (12 units) or graduate (8 units) student
    Any change to your eligibility status in any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award.
  • Must remain a CSUN full-time equivalent student during the Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 terms.

  • Complete the Personal Statement questionnaire covering the following information:
    -What experience has impacted your personal growth?
    -Tell us about a time you failed. What did you learn from that experience?
    -Why are you pursuing your major? How does it relate to your career aspirations?
    -Provide an example of service beyond the classroom (i.e., have you taken on significant family obligations, helped others in a specific way, been involved in political action, worked/volunteered/interned at a particular organization, etc.) Why is this example significant to you?
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation must be requested through the my Matador Scholarship system. Recommenders will submit their letters through this system. One of the letters must be from an academic instructor.


Award Amount: Six (6) $5,000 scholarships will be awarded for the academic year between all 23 CSU Campuses

Please note: If you are receiving Financial Aid (including loans), your financial aid award(s) may be adjusted if you receive a scholarship amount that exceeds your financial aid total limit. Speak to a financial aid counselor during walk-in hours to get a detailed overview about your individual situation.
