Child and Adolescent Development Alumni Chapter Scholarship Program

The goal of the CADV Alumni Chapter Scholarships is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or Alumni who is contributing to the profession through CSUN community involvement and leadership activities. Students selected to receive the scholarship are required to attend the Awards and Scholarships Celebration of Excellence Event. Date to be determined. This event will be held at the USU Grand Salon from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please bring your thank you letter with you on the night of the award ceremony, as it will be presented to your award donor during the event. Two letters of recommendation are required for these scholarships. Letter/s must be from a professional or academic reference. One of your letters of recommendation must be submitted from an employer, supervisors or professor. Letters should include the following information: (1) How long have you known the applicant and under what circumstances have you become familiar with the applicant’s capabilities. (2) Information regarding the student’s exceptional achievement and ability to contribute to the Profession of Child and Adolescent Development. (3) Discuss the applicant’s potential for future success; describe any impediments or hardships of which you are aware that the student has had to overcome in order to obtain academic success. (4) Rate the applicant’s motivation and initiative in pursuing academic and career goals.

  • For alumni or seniors, verification of acceptance into a post B.A./graduate program and/or verification of enrollment for the Fall 2022 semester must be submitted before you are awarded (Required for the Dr. Carol Kelly Scholarship).
  • Two letters of recommendation will be uploaded and submitted via the my Matador Scholarships portal.
  • Give your professors, teachers, counselors, and employers adequate time to write and return well written recommendation letters. This will ensure you have enough time to submit those returned letters before the posted deadlines.
  • Undergraduate students must enroll in 6 units or more during the Fall 2022 term.
  • Graduate students must enroll in 6 units or more during the Fall 2022 & Spring 2023 terms.

Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units of coursework at CSUN. For alumni or seniors, verification of acceptance into a post B.A./graduate program at CSUN and/or verification of enrollment for the Fall 2022 semester must be submitted before the scholarship is awarded.

Dr. Carol S. Kelly Scholarship
One $1,000 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Dr. Carol Kelly Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus who demonstrates leadership through community involvement and who will be pursuing a graduate degree preferably at CSUN.

Nedjat Gabbaie Scholarship
One $500 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Nedjat Gabbaie Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose career goal is to work with children or adolescents challenged with learning disabilities or is currently working with this population.

Healthy Minds Consulting Scholarship
One $500 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Healthy Minds Consulting Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose career goal is to work professionally with children or adolescents and is involved in advocacy or intends to pursue a career in this realm.

Dr. González Scholarship
One $300 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Gonzalez scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or CADV alumnus who is the first family member to pursue a degree in higher education and whose goal is to pursue a career with children and/or adolescents in mental or behavioral health.

Alzamora-Detweiler Scholarship
One $300 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Alzamora-Detweiler Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development undergraduate who is an immigrant or a child of immigrant parents whose goal is to pursue a career with children and adolescents challenged with physical, emotional, or mental disabilities.

Alas Para Crecer/Wings to Grow Scholarship
One $200 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Alas Para Crecer/Wings to Grow Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development undergraduate who is a first generation student, has a deceased parent/caretaker or an incarcerated family member, and works with children and adolescents challenged with educational and behavioral needs.

Jackey Konialian Scholarship
One $200 Scholarship awarded

The goal of the Jacky Berberian Scholarship is to support a Child and Adolescent Development major or alumnus whose goal is to work with children and adolescents challenged with special educational needs and/or is currently working with this population.
