MSP SAGE Society Scholarships

Funds will be awarded for the 2022-2023 AY.

SAGE was born in Spring of 1987, starting with 12 inspired, hard working members, and one study discussion group, SAGE now has 14 study discussion groups and a membership of over 150 and growing. SAGE Learning in Retirement is an organization for retired and semi-retired seniors interested in intellectual and cultural stimulation. SAGE has a long tradition of providing financial support to CSUN through designated donations made through yearly dues as well as special bequests to honor members. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the SAGE Society is proud to sponsor a unique scholarship opportunity. The following information will detail the SAGE scholarships.

Please note: Any change to your enrollment status resulting in less than full time enrollment for any term within the award year will result in a cancellation of your award.
**Preference will be given to Graduate Students.

  • Selected recipients must be available to attend the SAGE spring forum luncheon held in a San Fernando Valley location, exact date (TBA).
    ****International students are not eligible to apply

MSP June Adler Memorial Scholarship

The SAGE Learning in Retirement (SAGE LR) Scholarship offered in memory of Barbara Caretto:

This scholarship is offered in memory of Barbara Caretto who formerly worked at CSUN and CSU Sacramento. Most of Barbara’s work at these universities was aimed at encouraging students who did not traditionally major in the STEM fields to successfully obtain a degree in one of these fields.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Open to graduate students pursuing a degree in STEM fields ( mathematics, physical or biological sciences, engineering, or computer science).
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Recipients must be enrolled full-time during the Fall & Spring terms of the award year.
  • One letter of recommendation must be requested through the my Matador Scholarship system.
  • Must upload a copy of your student resume. A student resume is a detailed record of your personal and educational information. It includes the name of your school/college, coursework, projects (if any) undertaken, and awards. The resume may also contain additional information like your extracurricular activities, volunteer experiences, job experiences (if any), hobbies, etc.

MSP June Adler Memorial Scholarship:

This scholarship is sponsored by voluntary contributions from members of SAGE LR and June’s son. It memorializes June Adler, a long time member of and former president of SAGE LR. June practiced family law in the San Fernando Valley for 30 years. She had particular sympathy for the children who were frequently caught up in the emotional turmoil of divorce and other family problems. She made it her mission to try to make sure the children’s interest were properly addressed in the proceedings.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Open to undergraduate graduating seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in Childhood and Adolescent Development with the objective of a career in child psychology, counseling, family law, or with a non-profit which provides services to troubled children or teens.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least a 3.0
  • Recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 + units if an undergraduate, 6+ units if graduate with preference given to current graduate students enrolled full-time) during the Fall & Spring terms of the award year.
  • One letter of recommendation must be requested through the my Matador Scholarship system.
